Yay! Thank you so much Dinna for posting this. Kerry is a phenomenal actress, and she portrays Sojourner exactly as I imagine her. I've learned about Sojourner Truth almost my whole life. I chose her and a children's biography of her in 3rd grade as one of my first "book reports". One of the things I immediately loved about her was her name... so powerful. Something else that amazes me about her is how she not only fought for equal right for African-Americans, but also for women. I literally get goose bumps when Kerry says this line from Truth’s speech: “Where did your Christ come from? From God and a woman. Man had nothing to do with him.” Basically, she’s saying that women are equally deserving of rights because it was a woman who took part in creating the world’s Savior. That is not only a powerfully convincing argument; it’s also an accurate one. One other interpretation I love is by Alfre Woodard.
